Communications Training

Oxford, Media Training 23/05/2017

Claire specialises in training academics in the skills needed to engage with the public, the media, policy makers and funders. Workshops are conducted with former BBC Senior Producer Caroline Finnigan. More details can be found at their Engaging Communications website

Claire also provides coaching for individuals or groups outside academia. Sessions include:

  • Performing with ease and confidence in radio, TV and print interviews.
  • Using social media to communicate effectively (and safely)
  • Speaking in public; how to relax, perform and engage with an audience.

Workshops feature practical examples and exercises including on-camera interviews with participants. Claire uses her extensive experience as a presenter to make these challenging and realistic.

Testimonials

“The best training day I have participated in, by far. I took away a lot of practical insights, and got valuable insider perspectives from the two trainers who work so well together.” Social Sciences researcher, University of Oxford

“It was a great experience…The interviewer had done her research and asked me several excellent questions. This made it quite different from, say, practicing on camera with a friend.”  Humanities researcher, University of Oxford.

“Practical experience like this is uniquely valuable. Caroline and Claire are excellent and to the point.” Fellow, International Institute of Strategic Studies.

“Claire taught us how to find what’s unique and valuable in our work and express it in an engaging interview.” – Author Candy Gourlay, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
